Knowing the age of pregnancy is very important, especially for Mama. With this calendar method, besides being able to calculate the age of pregnancy, Mama can also figure the Estimated Birth Day (HPL).
Mama knew enough about the First Day of Last Menstruation (HPHT) to be able to calculate the gestational age through this calendar method.
If your menstrual cycle is regular (28 days or 30 days generally), you can count HPL using the following Neagele formula:
(date of HPHT + 7), (the month of the last menstrual period - 3), (the year at the time of the last period +1)
Example: the last menstrual mother on November 18, 2017.
So, the calculation becomes:
(18 + 7), (11 - 3), (2017 + 1) = 25, 8, 2018
So, mother's HPL is August 25, 2018.
From this HPL Mama can calculate the gestational age per 25. For example, on December 25, 2017, Mama's gestational age is six weeks or 1 month, and so on.
If Mama's HPHT occurs on a month that cannot be reduced by 3 (January - March), then the month is enough to add 9, while the year is fixed.
Example: The last menstrual mommy on February 6, 2018.
So, the calculation becomes:
(6 + 7), (2 + 9), (2018) = 13, 11, 2018
So, HPL Mama is November 13, 2018.
Often, Mama who has just married and is immediately blessed with children will be suspected of experiencing an MBA (Married by Accident) because of the gestational age with the date of the marriage too close.
This is because the pregnancy count is indeed calculated from the last date of menstruation.
If it is not calculated from the last date of menstruation, the age of pregnancy will be difficult to calculate because we never know when fertilization occurs in the womb.
Therefore, medical science considers the most appropriate is counting from HPHT.

Transvaginal ultrasound is usually done at the beginning of pregnancy through the birth canal, to ascertain the existence of the fetal sac and the location of the fetus, even to see abnormalities in the fetus.
Meanwhile, transabdominal ultrasound is done through the abdominal wall. Usually, it is done when the age of the womb is large enough, which is around the period of 12 weeks and above or 3 months.
To get an accurate calculation result, a new pregnancy can be detected by ultrasound if the gestational age has reached four weeks of age.
Even though there are pregnant women who can detect pregnancy before the age of 4 weeks, a new obstetrician can state that she is pregnant at the period of 4 weeks and above.
Usually, before doing an ultrasound examination, the obstetrician will also ask Mama's HPHT so that the doctor will compare it with the results of the ultrasound.
